WHO WE ARE
FOUR LEGGED FACILITATORS
Mickey
Mickey’s registered name is “As Good as it Gets.” We agree that this little man is a “goodie” but think his barn-name Mickey (which has morphed into Mick, Mickles, or Michelodean) fits as the other half of our part of our duo of miniature horses.
Mick started out thinking he was “all that” when he first arrived on our farm, but life (and the other horses) have gentled him.
Thankfully, he still is a confident young gelding with a resolve and strength t hat assist him in helping the two-legged friends that join us in the arena. With bangs (or forelock) that always seem to be in his eyes and his turned-up nose, he looks a little bit like a rock star. Mick really is a “star” to us in helping people learn about themselves an others.
Partnering with a miniature horse typically reduces people’s fear about getting physically hurt or kicked; more importantly though, we find that these pint-sized horses help people learn to focus and pay close attention to detail.
They are incredible teachers which can facilitate metaphors about relationships with students, employees, or family members where the needs and wants of people lower on the food chain (or hierarchy) are often not heard. Size does matter, but it’s not the size of the horse that matters, it’s the size of the heart, the amount of respect, trust, and authenticity that show up big in equine assisted work!
