WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe in possibilities.
We work from the perspective that because people are different (life experiences, educational backgrounds, belief systems, etc.) that is more effective to help participants explore possibilities and seek understanding than to play the “blame game” and determine right from wrong. But how do we transfer these ideas, making them concrete, pragmatic and practical? That depends on the program; but during debriefings we often share a concept we call “non-negotiables” and “freedom” (a phrase learned from Dr. Margaret Wheatley). Identifying the decisions, steps, or processes that are immovable (or non-negotiable) and creating space for people to be free with the rest, regardless of their learning or personality style, to accomplish goals. Kaleidoscope programs are built with a focus on developing more of the “good things” in a person and an organization, rather than an emphasis on fixing what is not working. The goal of Kaleidoscope Learning Circle is to collaborate with individuals to help them grow, change, and evolve by providing them with opportunities to reflect, learn, and explore new possibilities.
We believe in matching our resources & talents to your desired outcomes.
We begin by asking each client/participant to define our success by telling us what it looks like if we meet or exceed their expectations. Each Kaleidoscope program is custom designed to create an optimal learning environment, whether that’s for personal growth or professional development or both. From a possible pre-assessment to the appropriately sequenced exercises (both with horses and without) we work to provide people with tools to help them stop and think about their actions and reactions to experiences and to identify their personal and organizational belief systems.
We define desired outcomes in detail prior to any program development and see our job as “environmentalists” or the people in charge of channeling the environment and dialogue toward the desired outcomes. Because of the experiential nature of our program process, we may take a few “learning detours” along the way, exploring areas not initially identified. Some possible outcomes include: more effective communication, improved problem solving skills, better working relationships, enhanced creative thinking, increased self-awareness, etc.
We believe in Equine Experiential Learning.
Experiential learning engages people by offering them the opportunity to fully participate with their mind, body and spirit. Simply put, experiential education is learning by doing with reflection. It is based on the belief that people learn best by direct and purposeful contact with their learning experiences. One thing that changes in each Kaleidoscope program design is the context or framework, based on the desired outcomes. Some of the variables include program length, experiential exercises, group size, etc. Learning is always one of the desired outcomes of an EAL experience -- a change in the way we feel, think, or behave, overcoming barriers and resistance.
Horses help us by being active participants in learning situations. Because they each have their own unique personalities and they are instinctive and natural, they often mirror or reflect the emotions and energy of the people around them. Horses offer a genuine interpretation of reality, not as we wish it to be, but rather, as it is, without bias, manipulation, or hidden human agendas. Through equine experiential learning exercises, KLC helps individuals learn to differentiate fact from opinion, truth from fiction, and authenticity from desire.
